Comments from the owner:
1) What do you love most about your home?
The house is south facing so there's lots of natural light which, coupled with the high ceilings, makes the house feel light and spacious. Our favourite rooms are the very large master bedroom and the living room, which boasts some really attractive original features such as the fireplace.
Even though the house is close to the high street, it's on a quiet one-way street so it's peaceful in the house and garden. We really enjoy sitting in the garden watching the regular visitors to the bird feeder; it's like our own little oasis. It's also great for summer barbecues and with current covid restrictions we can meet with friends in the garden via the side gate without them needing to come through the house.
2) Why are you moving?
We're mainly moving for work but also to be closer to family. If we weren't moving we might consider expanding into the large loft space (great for storage) or knocking through the living room/dining room to open up the reception areas. Some of our neighbours have expanded upwards so there's precedent on the street when it comes to planning permission.
3) What do you love about the area?
Thornton Heath is really well connected. We've commuted for work to different areas in central London; Victoria, Waterloo, Farringdon and London Bridge have all been easily and quickly accessible. The 250 bus from Brixton combined with the 24h Victoria underground line also offers a really handy late-night route home for anyone planning a big night out!
If you don't fancy going into central London then Croydon town centre is two stops away on the train for the cinema, shops, bars and restaurants. Croydon also offers useful connections for trips further afield: you can get from Thornton Heath to Gatwick airport in 30 minutes and to Brighton in an hour.
Crystal Palace is just up the hill and offers more boutique shops, restaurants, cafes, community events and a farmers' market, as well as our favourite pet shop and a really nice garden centre. The dinosaurs in the park are also well worth a visit.
There are large supermarkets at either end of the high street along with several independent grocers so we don't have to travel for our weekly shop. There's a variety of great restaurants in and around the area for dine in or takeaway so having a gym and swimming pool at the end of the road has been a real blessing.
